Korea, US discuss combined military drills

Putin's invitation to Kim Jong-un comes days after the reclusive North Korean leader held landmark talks in Singapore with US President Donald Trump.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the United States hopes to achieve complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula in two-and-a-half years, ABC News reported on Wednesday.

Kim Jong-Il, the father of the current North Korean leader, travelled to the country in 2011 to meet with Dmitry Medvedev, Russia's president at the time.

"The two ministers agreed to continuously strengthen efforts to provide defense support, based on the solid South Korea-U.S. alliance, for the faithful and expeditious implementation of the agreement from the North Korea-U.S. summit", the ministry said in a press release.

Trump also declared on social media on Wednesday that "there is no longer a nuclear threat from North Korea", after his meeting with Kim.

In the four-point joint statement, North Korea committed only "to work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula".

Mr Trump's surprise promise to call off military exercises, describing them as expensive and "provocative", delighted North Korea and China but caught key U.S. allies off-guard.

An didn't get his history right - top North Korean military official Hwang Pyong So, in uniform, stepped into the southern side of Panmunjom on August 2015 for talks with South Korean government officials.

She wrote that she had "already won the case" and that the case was more about clearing her name than making money. Apparently some weight loss companies are using her image to sell their shit, and Wilson's not into it.

In Japan and South Korea, there is growing bewilderment over the fact that Trump expressed his intention to consider suspending U.S.

"Only five months ago, based on my conversations with this administration, I thought we were headed down an inexorable path toward a devastating war", Victor Cha, who was considered for the role of United States ambassador to South Korea for nearly a year by the Trump administration before being passed over, wrote in The New York Times on Tuesday.

The Russian leader had a meeting with North Korean official Kim Yong Nam on Thursday, at which he handed over an invitation for Mr Kim to visit later in 2018.

"I think he's going to do these things", Trump said.

He also announced an unexpected end to US-South Korea military drills.

However, there had been criticism of the statement for its failure to give detail on a timeline for Pyongyang to give up its nuclear weapons or how it would be verified.

Al Jazeera's Wayne Hay, reporting from Seoul, said that the meeting was an opportunity for the three countries "to show that they are in the same page" when it comes to the issue of North Korea and denuclearisation. "Trump doesn't realise that if you brought down the barriers at the North Korean-China border and told the Chinese to stop chasing North Koreans, you'd probably have 100,000 people leave in a week".

In remarks at a news conference in Seoul, the top USA diplomat added that any sanctions relief North Korea receives from the US will be linked to efforts to denuclearize. Kim Young Nam heads the presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly in North Korea.
