Imperious Nadal Downs Thiem To Claim 11th Roland Garros Title

Their first meeting came four years ago at Roland Garros on the very court they are set to contest the final, with Nadal beating an untested Thiem 6-2 6-2 6-3 in the second round.

"Thiem is an animal physically and in terms of hitting the ball hard on the forehand".

His flawless sliding and fine single-handed backhand make him a fearsome player on clay and Cecchinato believes he has what it takes to continue his climb up the rankings.

More prize money is up for grabs than ever before at this year's French Open but it remains the least lucrative of the four Grand Slams for players to win.

But once he squandered that chance against Thiem, the Italian ended up falling to a 7-5 7-6 (10) 6-1 defeat.

Paris: Spanish tennis ace Rafael Nadal on Friday outclassed Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro to storm into his record 11th final of the French Open with a 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 win in the men's semi-final clash.

The fifth seed, playing in his first Roland Garros semi-final in nine years, had three break points in the third game and three more in the ninth. However, the 29-year-old was unable to capitalise and Nadal made him pay in the 10th game when he claimed the opener off a netted backhand. After serving a fault, Nadal took the unusual step of heading to the sideline in the middle of a game.

In full control of the French Open final, a rather familiar position for him, Rafael Nadal suddenly was anxious.

Nadal, a 16-time Grand Slam champion, claimed his 85th win here against just two losses after weathering a big-hitting opening from 2009 US Open victor Del Potro to win 6-4, 6-1, 6-2.

"You can win a set, but not a match against Rafa", said Del Potro keen not to over-egg any hint of weakness in Nadal's game.

Trump Seeks Recovery of US Military Remains in North Korea
I asked him, I said, 'I have something to say from North Korea and he just brushed me off. 'I think people have an understanding that we can forgive people.

"I'm really happy that I won this Grand Slam".

In his on-court speech after Nadal's 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 victory, the 24-year-old Thiem said: "I still remember when you won here the first time, 2005".

"If Thiem can do that and build enough hope in the first hour, hour and a half, maybe get the first set he can make it physical like he did in Madrid".

Just like that, Nadal was off on a five-game burst to lead 3-0 in the second set.

"I couldn't play my best because of him", said del Potro, the 2009 U.S. Open champion.

"Today, all day, on Philippe Chatrier, the fans said "Forza, Marco", so I think this is the best moment for me", said Cecchinato."Against Dominic Thiem, he is top 10, and today all the people were for me".

But Thiem showed resilience in getting two break points on Nadal's serve.

He takes on rising tennis star Dominic Thiem for the title.

Thiem weathered three set points for Cecchinato, at 7-6, 9-8 and 10-9. I played so many matches. Over the past two years, including best-of-three matches, the Spaniard is 49-2 at clay tournaments.

But the Spaniard was impressive on Friday, finishing with 35 winners and 19 unforced errors to Del Potro's analysis of 20 and 32."Thiem is an wonderful player".
