Surgeon general helps fellow passenger who passed out on flight

Dr. Adams intervened when a passenger became ill during the flight, Delta said in a statement to CNN.

Dr. Jerome Adams said he was on a Delta flight from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Wednesday when one of the passengers needed medical help.

The department of Health and Human services did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Surgeon General tweeted about his experience, saying "They asked if there was a Doctor on board to help with a medical emergency", he wrote.

Flight staff called for help, and Adams, along with two nurses, stepped in to help evaluate the passenger. Although Adams was successful in regaining the consciousness of the passenger, he thought that it would be necessary to take the passenger back to the gate and get the patient evaluated at the hospital. "Why yes - yes there was".

Dr. Adams will be at UMMC in Jackson Thursday to discuss the opioid epidemic and what steps the administration and federal government are taking to address it. "Delta thanks the Surgeon General for volunteering his services in assisting this customer". There is no word on what exactly caused the patient to lose consciousness or how he or she is now doing, but in Adams' tweet, he stated that the patient is doing well.

Adams was sworn into office by Vice President Mike Pence in September 2017.
